My Journey
A story about courage, perseverance and the belief that Denmark could stay home.
On February 23, 1990, I arrived in Denmark. The voyage departed from Świnoujście in Poland by passenger ship - a country I left with a hope for a better future. Arriving at the Port of Copenhagen was the beginning of something new. But the road was long and uncertain.
For 754 days, I stayed at various asylum centers around Denmark. It was a period of uncertainty, waiting and hope. Eventually, the residence permit came through a special law in 1992. A door opened.
I learned the language, took an HHX education and then a higher education in computer science. I wanted to contribute - not just receive. Each exam was a step towards a future I built myself.
My career started as an IT coordinator and system administrator. Slowly, responsibility grew - from servers and networks to teams and strategy. I found myself at the intersection of technology and people.
As an IT delegate in the Emergency Response Unit, I was deployed to disaster areas around the world. Sitting in a tent in the middle of a humanitarian crisis and making communication systems work - it puts things in perspective. It's not just IT. It's life.
Denmark gave me a future - it obliges. I have been involved in local politics, served on the Integration Council in Høje-Taastrup Municipality, been chairman of the board of a non-profit housing company and served on the NGO's main board. You give back what you've got.
Since 2018, I have served as a lay judge at the Court of Glostrup. It is a position of trust that I take seriously - to contribute to justice in the community that once opened its doors to me.
Today, I work as a chief consultant and IT Operations Manager - responsible for critical national infrastructure. The journey from the asylum centre to the public sector has not always been easy. But it's always been mine.
